The Internship

What do I wear?

Casual dress. You can look like you rolled out of bed, or Soho-ready. As long as you shower and clean, you pass.

Where is 900 Broadway?

Google Maps will stick it at Beecher's. That's not where the office is. Continue along the avenue that Beecher's sits on, towards Union Square. A few steps later, you'll find an office entrance with the number "900". Enter.

Does Ordr.in provide summer housing?

Unfortunately, no. But Airbnb, 9flats occasionally has listings for people looking to rent out for the summer. Or, you can opt for NYU summer housing. It's reasonably priced and close to the office, but some include a mandatory meal plan. Also, summers can get hot, so choose one with air conditioning if you don't like heat and humidity.

What do I do about meals?

Typically, everyone breaks at 12 p.m. to go out for lunch. You can either buy your own, or pack your own.

The company typically does lunch together, which is great. But if a friend is in town, and you want to grab a meal with him/her, you're always free to do that!

What's the length of the internship? What are the work hours like?

Internships typically run from 8-10 weeks. But the great part is, Ordr.in is flexible. So if you need a week off for vacation in the middle of the internship, you have the company's good grace.

There isn't a set time, but this summer (2012) most of us usually came in at 9, and left at around 6:30/7, 5 if the commute back home was long. Really, it's your call. All the company really cares about is that you're finishing up work that needs to be done on time.

How can I learn as much as I can while I'm here?

Be there. Ask questions. Work hard. Ask for projects. Be a cheerful camper. Listen.

It's simple. But "just because something is simple doesn't mean it is easy."
